Description In August 2026, Meta settled with 52 AGs (states, DC, territories) for up to $17.1B over teen social media harms. About $5B of that depends on TikTok, YouTube and Snap taking on equivalent obligations. YouTube settled individual bellwether cases, but CEO Neal Mohan declined to join Meta's framework in September 2026. As of November 8, 2026, YouTube has no multistate AG deal.
- This event resolves YES if, between November 8, 2026 and June 30, 2027 11:59 PM ET (July 1, 2027 03:59 UTC), Google/Alphabet or YouTube and at least 10 US state AGs publicly announce a settlement, consent/stipulated judgment or other binding agreement (including an agreement in principle) in which youth-safety or addictive-design obligations for YouTube are a material part.
- This event resolves NO if no such agreement is announced by the deadline.
- 1. Specificity: 10+ state AGs must be parties to one agreement or jointly announced coordinated agreements. DC counts as a state; territories do not. Agreements covering other topics too count if YouTube youth-safety terms are material.
- 2. Exclusion: Does not count: deals with fewer than 10 AGs, or separate unrelated deals added together; private, school district or personal-injury settlements; FTC/federal-only deals; COPPA privacy-only deals; deals covering only YouTube Kids or non-YouTube products; court-imposed judgments after trial; meeting Meta's equivalence trigger through voluntary compliance or state law without an agreement with 10+ AGs.
- 3. Source Hierarchy: Official AG press releases or Google/YouTube statements priority. Court filings secondary. Reuters, AP, CNBC, NYT tertiary. Media reports citing anonymous sources must be confirmed by a party statement or court filing.
- 4. Timing: The announcement must happen before the deadline. Later announcements resolve NO.
- 5. Cancellation Rule: A confirmed agreement in principle counts even if it is finalized later or withdrawn.
