Will Base officially announce a native Base network token by August 27, 2026?

DescriptionIn mid-July 2026 Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong admitted Base's 'content coins' strategy failed ('We messed up, time to turn the page') after a creator token spiked near $9M then crashed 67% in hours. Builders accused Base of gatekeeping while preaching decentralization, and founder Jesse Pollak said Base is 'beginning to explore' a native token as it pivots toward payments, tokenized equities and AI. Base held its first Global Community Call on July 31, 2026, but no token name, tokenomics, snapshot or launch date has been confirmed.
This event resolves YES if Base or Coinbase makes an official, on-record announcement confirming a native Base network (L2) token on or before August 27, 2026 23:59 UTC. This event resolves NO if no such announcement is made by the deadline.
1. Specificity: YES requires an official statement from Base or Coinbase (Base/Coinbase blog, Jesse Pollak, Brian Armstrong, or official Base/Coinbase X accounts) that a native Base network token exists or will be issued — confirming a token, tokenomics, snapshot, or airdrop/launch.
2. Exclusion: Does NOT count — creator/content coins, memecoins, Zora coins, tokenized equities/stocks, stablecoins, third-party or unofficial 'BASE' tokens, rumors, speculation, or mere 'still exploring' remarks without a firm commitment to issue a token.
3. Source Hierarchy: Official Base/Coinbase channels (base.org, coinbase.com blog, verified X accounts) priority. Coindesk/The Block secondary. Reuters/Bloomberg tertiary.
4. Timing: Must occur on or before August 27, 2026 23:59 UTC. Post-deadline resolves NO.
5. Cancellation Rule: For content/feature additions — YES requires both an announcement AND that it confirms an actual token (not a study/exploration). A pure exploration statement without commitment resolves NO. If a token is announced then plans are paused before the deadline — resolves YES based on the first announcement date.
