Will a non-Texas state AG take action against a smart TV maker over ACR viewing data by June 30, 2027?

$21,648 Vol. 234d 9h left
Description Texas AG Ken Paxton sued Sony, Samsung, LG, Hisense and TCL on Dec 15, 2025 over Automated Content Recognition (ACR) viewing-data collection; Samsung and LG settled in 2026, the rest are still litigating. Michigan (Apr 2025) and Florida (Oct 2025) sued Roku over children's data, but no non-Texas AG has filed an ACR-focused TV case.
  • This event resolves YES if, between Nov 8, 2026 and July 1, 2027 03:59 UTC (June 30, 11:59 PM ET), the AG of any US state other than Texas, or of DC, newly files a qualifying enforcement action against a smart TV maker or TV OS/streaming-device platform.
  • This event resolves NO if no such action is filed or announced by the deadline.
  • 1. Specificity: Qualifying action = a filed complaint, administrative order, or announced settlement/assurance of voluntary compliance, first filed or announced in the window. ACR or TV viewing-data collection/sharing/sale must be named in the AG press release headline, be a standalone count in the complaint, or be the primary subject of a settlement document (children's-privacy actions count only if so). Targets: TV makers and TV OS/streaming-device platforms (e.g., Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense, TCL, Vizio/Walmart, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Google TV). A new separate multistate suit counts even if Texas joins.
  • 2. Exclusion: Settlements, amendments or rulings in cases filed before Nov 8, 2026 (e.g., Michigan v. Roku); private class actions; FTC/federal actions; investigations, CIDs or letters without a complaint or settlement; states joining Texas's existing cases; streaming apps (Netflix, YouTube), cable/satellite firms and data brokers.
  • 3. Source Hierarchy: Official state AG press releases and court filings priority. Reuters, AP, The Record secondary. IAPP and other major outlets tertiary.
  • 4. Timing: Filing/announcement must occur before July 1, 2027 03:59 UTC. Post-deadline resolves NO.
  • 5. Cancellation Rule: Later dismissal or withdrawal of a qualifying action does not change YES.
