DescriptionOn September 23, 2025, China announced it will forego its claim to Special & Differential Treatment (SDT) in future WTO negotiations, a move that could shift the dynamics of global trade talks. This step would represent a historic shift in China’s position as a “developing country” within the WTO framework. Will the World Trade Organization formally record China’s waiver of SDT status in an official WTO negotiating document or communique on or before 31 December 2025? This Event Outcome will Settle to “Yes” if WTO publishes official minutes, communiques, or negotiation documents confirming China’s waiver of SDT. It will Settle to “No” if no such documentation is published by the Event Date Close. Will not count: Unofficial remarks by Chinese officials, media leaks, or commentary not backed by WTO official publications will not count. The primary source for this Event Outcome will be WTO official records.
